Found some magnets. Would these be ok? Would the Epoxy coating be troublesome? I'd like a better ring material than duct tape. Suggestions? 10mm x 2mm N42 Epoxy Coated Neodymium Magnet - Disc Size: 10mm dia. x 2mm thick Grade: N42 Plating: Epoxy Max Temp: 80° C (175° F) Surface Gauss: 2300 Magnetized: Axially through 2mm thickness Max Energy Product - (BH)Max: 41.23 MGOe Pull Strength: 6 lb 5 oz Weight: 0.0400 oz

Where are you buying them from? The specs are good, but you should make sure you are paying a good price. Also I would be worried about the epoxy. It will have prolonged contact with the skin. If you develop cuts or sores it can be bad for you. That is partially why I ask where you are buy the magnets. If they are shipped from china, that would be really bad.

www.gaussboys.com Would it be better to get nickel or gold plated, then? Looks like they just shipped them. Guess I could just use a thin cloth or something to prevent actual skin contact. Or use a solvent to remove the epoxy...

I think gold plated is best, but that is just my own opinion. I feel that Gold has just the right conductivity for the rings to be balanced between the body and the magnets. However it does tarnish very fast and would require constant care. Since they shipped already, I would use a thin cloth. The solvent may not get all of it and could potentially be more harmful. But if you can, of course, find a solvent that is non-toxic and you feel safe with; then by all means go on ahead.

I have some velcro hook'n'loop and dots around I was going to work with. I'll post my design once I work things together, for others to critique.

Ok, here's my design. Sorry about the blurry text. Uploaded with ImageShack.us

uh-oh. I just noticed my magnets are a much smaller than the ones in the how to page. 1/2"x1/4" vs my 10mm x 2mm (0.39"x0.07") :/
