"The Dalai Lama told a packed audience in the U.S. Capitol he had "no hidden agenda" in seeking greater autonomy but not independence for his Himalayan homeland."
The guy isn't even asking that his country remain seperate, but only that he be continued to preside over it, as their culture and history have been allowed to for centuries.
Don't know if circumcision helps stop the spread of aids, castration would though.
Circumcision helps prevents HIV, but not not significantly. Castration will not do anything if there is penetration. Abstinence and condoms prevent HIV.
Bizzare new age stuff being talked about here....
Here's what Wikipedia actually says on Circumcision:
In March 2007 the World Health Organization and UNAIDS recognized male circumcision as an effective intervention for HIV prevention, but warned that male circumcision only provides partial protection and should not replace other interventions to prevent the heterosexual transmission of HIV.<14> Circumcision may also be used to treat inflammation of the glans and penile cancer.<15><16> Using circumcision to treat phimosis (see section below) is debated in medical literature.<17><18>
Anyway, I agree the Dali Lama is not a great person and that he's just a poster boy for those who are against China for its human rights record, but China is barely better. I don't know where Alex Chiu got this concept of Mao wanting to emulate the West, that was Sun Yat-sen, who founded the Republic of China, not the Peoples Republic of China. Mao Tse-Tung, like the Soviets, Khmer Rouge, Viet Minh, Lao Communist, and various South American communist movements were all paranoid and afraid of the West, and shunned Western ideals and beliefs. The only Communist who accepted Western ideals were Eurocommunist, who never aligned themselves with communist countries. The Dail Lama was bad, but Mao was more deadly.
