The above reference from howstuffworks.com is very misleading unless you think about it in concrete terms. that's like saying that because Brian Wilson and Beethoven both had impaired hearing, children with impaired hearing are more likely to be great musicians. No way! Those guys are exceptions. Most children with impaired hearing can't play music for sh!t. Just like most madmen are the guys yelling on the street about something incoherent, not inventing advanced mathematical treatises. It may be true that a larger percentage of geniuses had some mental affliction, but that's not the same as saying that people who are mentally ill should be viewed as more likely to be geniuses. Take this example: If there are 100 geniuses on this planet and 50% of them are mentally ill, that represents a larger percentage of mentally ill people than there are in the general public. But if you look at the entire population of the world as 6 billion people, 1 billion of them might be mentally ill (16.66%). But you're talking about 50 geniuses in 1 billion mentally ill people. If you were to choose someone at random from that pool of 1 billion people, it's not very likely that you picked someone who happens to be a genius. In reality, only 0.000005% of the mentally ill population is a genius. That's statistically near zero. Likewise, the chances of Alex Chiu being a genius are also statistically near zero. He's much, much, MUCH more likely to be a deluded nutjob than a genius who invented immortality. The fact that he has repeatedly chosen to not show a single shred of evidence supporting his claims should get counted as a strike against him as well. And let's not forget the fact that he seems completely incapable of showing compassion or concern about anyone but himself, and all he wants is to get rich. Oh, and then there's the fact that he has narcissistic personality disorder.
