Letter to facebook
A friend of mine, who wears Rings, has been banned by facebook because he wrote Jesus never existed and proved it with literature reference. So he complained to facebook through a letter: FACEBOOK 156 University Ave. Palo Alto CA 94301 – 1605 Telefax 0016505434801 To the attention of Mark Zuckerberg Milan, September, 8th, 2009 Account gbonomo1@gmail.com Dear Sirs, after having received and thoroughly read your answer to the appeal I made after my account on Facebook has been disabled, some remarks are due. First of all, You write that I “exceeded Facebook limits”, but “unfortunately”, I cannot be “provided with the specific rates that have been deemed abusive”; I just want to point out that such a statement is not a valid explanation for the cancellation of all the contents posted by me and by my friends and my supporters on the various group pages I built. It's absolutely reasonable for me and anyone else to want to know how and by which means, I violated not only Facebook Terms of use, but also how and by saying what I harassed – as You wrote - or offended someone else's morality or sensitivity. The ban I underwent put me into a ‘kafkaesque’ status, making me feel guilty without knowing the accuse. This is a very strong and delicate emotive device that, furthermore, makes others think I must have done something wrong only because I've been pre-emptively punished. As the pages and the groups I set up deal with Ethic and Lay themes, I feel they must have not been welcome to some Catholic or Clerical Users, who reported me more than once, calling in the Bots that disabled my account. Without any other explanation from You, I cannot help thinking that the decision of disabling my account had been taken because of the deeply ethic soul and spirit of the groups I created. This arises a matter of denied transparency and equity. Furtgemore, the rules of Facebook platform cannot collide with the Principles that found the Italian Republic, such as the freedom of thought, other than being opposite to common Good Sense; the Laws of a democratic State cannot be violated. Besides, the cost-free nature of Facebook doesn't deprive users of their rights; who offers a service, although a free one, doesn't own the people who use that service! Data are always and however exclusive properties of those who post them on line; cancelling them with no previous notification, nor explanation and without giving the possibility to appeal, You commit an illegal act. I remind You, also, that, from Facebook to the common e-mail address, all of us have a virtual identity, and loosing it is the same as loosing a civil right. However, as far as I'm concerned, not only I used the free services Facebook offers, but also I paid thousands Euros to get ads for my Groups that now, with no explanation, have been swept away. Finally, for the reasons shown above, I ask You to reactivate my account with no further delay, otherwise I'll ask for damages I suffered in terms of image and violation of intellectual property and, last but not least, I'll ask for compensation of the money I spent to get ads for pages that, now, have been disabled, warning You that, receiving no concrete aknowledgment to this letter, I'll assert my rights in front of the competent Courts. Yours faithfully, Giovanni Bonomo
