Having trouble getting a job as a bartender.
I hate SNOHOMISH WASHINGTON! This sucks, I finally graduated from bartending college, and no one will hire me because every place that is hiring wants someone who has experiance..... But I can't get experiance untill after I've gotten hired...At the same token I can't get hired untill after I've had experiance!!! It's a circle that never ends.... This is why I went to bartending school, I assummed that bartending school counted as experiance since it's the only way to get any without actually being a bartender first. I went to bartending school also because I got tired of barbacking for almost 2 yrs with every bartender refusing to teach me a damn thing because their not gettting paid to share their knowledge. So working a bar doesn't help you become a bartender, unless your hired as a bartender, and becomming more knowledgable and experianced by an academy doesn't do shit either here in WASHINGTON... whats a guy to do??????? Any ideas anyone????????????????????????

Make up a story and bribe people into lying for you. You'd have to be a super kick ass bar keep to actually walk the walk, since you would have people talking the talk.

I know, I've thought of that. But the thing that bothers me is that I shouldn't have to do that. I'm a former asst. mngr of a restuarant, I was a barista, I have job corps in culinary arts, And over a yr in barbacking, and serving beers. And I'm a former bar kitchen master chefe, I have a newly renewed servers permit, and I'm a certified mixologist..... That's more then most well experianced bartenders can say even after they've had years of experiance bartending... The only thing I'm lacking is the experiance in bartending itself, and that's bs, because that's nothing I can control, we all start out with no experiance... I've worked so hard so that I don't have to lie.

Is it that you can't even find jobs to apply for, or that you're getting rejected when you apply?

wwfjdraw- 01-08-2009

high class. low class. medium class. hey i'm so desperate to find a job i'm trying them all.

wowchung- 01-08-2009

maybe you have to fancy, or high class of a personality for a bar try put a fake tatoo on for your interview see if that works lol.

INTERVIEW!! I would kill to go interviewing just once! I haven't been in a single interview so far!.............................................................That's bad!

hmm do you live in a big city maybe too much competition; do you ever go drinking and talk to the bartenders about getting job, or owner/managers?

I've asked around. But something you should know..... I'm not like most bartenders from where I'm from/at. Where I'm at, bartenders are although popular, and famous, looked up to ect, they are also mainly jerks and care of no one but themselves, they have no concern for anyone but themselves... I've asked, and everytime I do, I get a "if anything turns up I'll let you know, unfortunetly we're not hiring at this time". Honestly, they don't care. Unless they're boss is around they would throw every resume I have straight in the trash without a second thought. I have perfect references, being: My former boss from snohomish wa who owns a bar(but isn't hiring). My mixologist teacher. Finished with coworkers, and instructers who would go back to back for me. And somehow that's not enough.

not to mention I got ahold of jobcorp and they said that finally after all this time that sometime in january I will recieve the paperwork/diploma/certificate ect... Ofcourse that was back in dec when they said that, and if it's not here by the first of feb I'm going to lose it again...I've been waiting since 2004 for them to get their shit together, they never told me I would have to wait this long when I enrolled, or while I was there, infact even after I graduated they said "wont be long till you get it in the mail". I thought that meant a day or so, I didn't think that it would take YEARS AFTER GRADUATION. If I get it this year, it'll be a big step for all graduates who have been waiting. I've heard there's still someone my wife knows from job corp who graduated from culinary arts who is a very successfull caterer (I know it's spelled wrong). And he's still waiting.

Normally bartender jobs aren't all that hard to get and bartenders definitely ain't anyone special. If you're so dead set on being a bartender, and the prospects there are so poor, maybe you should consider moving?
