It is the news sugar lovers have long been waiting for.
In what is being hailed as a major medical breakthrough, Canadian scientists say they have created a device that can make human teeth grow back.
A team at the University of Alberta have spent months developing the prototype ultrasound device, which fits into a patient's mouth, gently massaging gums and stimulating dental growth from the root.
But it does not generate enamel and so regrown teeth would need extra dental work to cover them.
The tiny machine, which is smaller than a pea, is wireless and controlled by a pocket-sized remote carried by the user.
It believed the device could be on the market in less than two years.
Its creators say they also intend to see whether the machine could be used to grow new bones.
The technology, which has already been approved for use in Canada and the US, has been tested successfully on rabbits, monkeys and humans.
Researcher Dr Tarek El-Bialy, from the University of Alberta in Canada, said: "We have proved an ultrasound machine can stimulate growth by encouraging protein and blood production.
"Now, our challenge is to develop, by the end of the year, a device small enough to fit into a patient's mouth."
His breakthrough, reported in the American Journal Of Orthodontics And Dentofacial Orthopedics, has prompted inquiries from dentists around the world

i wonder if its possible to regrow teeth , which are made of calcium , it would be possible to enlong bones, in order to make someone taller i suppose. am i right or wrong on that ?
