Circles
The martial arts that are based on the I Ching emphasize circular enegy, as do internal exercises of the mind, breath, and muscles.
The fundamental circle with the I Ching has North-Midnight-Water-Black-Winter Solstice at the bottom; East-Sunrise-Wood-Green-Vernal Equinox on the left; South-Noon-Fire-Red-Summer Solstice at the top; West-Sunset-Metal-White-Autumnal Equinox on the right; Earth-Yellow in the centre.
I have developed the habit of drawing the hexagrams in a circle, like a hexagonal cell of a bee-hive. This is especially helpful in drawing attention to the intimate relationship between lines 1-4, 2-5, and 3-6. I believe these relationships are more important than anything that is happening between any two lines of the hexagram in a more random way.
