cell phones: the gateway to the Singularity
I think barring some hard-takeoff surge of hypercomputation- that the most practical prediction for the way in which the Singularity will unfold will be through cell phones- -mobile devices already contain failrly powerful computers and in 2008 a report was released showing that there are now 3.3 billion mobile phones in use: a global network of 10^9 networked computers each with about 10^7 or 10^8 ops/bits of computational power- that is a distributed global network of 10^17 ops/bits - or about a hundred human brains worth of computation going on over the surface of the earth at all times!- and that is now connected to the internet at a few hundred million nodes- to a network of about 10^8 computers each with 10^10 ops/bits- so a network about 10-100 times as big as the mobile phone network or thousands of human brains- all connected to millions of GPS/surveillance cameras/all communications/ all stored knowledge- and exponentiating in growth - that is TODAY's cell phone network- imagine in 10 years when the average cell phone will have the same specs as a room full of LAN connected top-of-the-line gaming tower PCs from today- running at several teraflops/ with terrabits of storage- yet in 2020 there should be some of the first direct-brain interfaces available- ultrasound devices and nanodrugs that will provide direct sensory/thought/memory stimulation as well as full neural state recording- when that happens we will have 8 billion people on the cell phone/internet and millions of them will have direct brain connections- those people will start to use things like Wikipedia and Google searches as direct neural interfaced AUGMENTATIONS of their minds- they will start to record sensory memory and dreams and sell/share them- hack them- people will start to consider their apps as PART OF THEMSELVES- and they will be right since they will always be a thought away from filling the mind with pure emotional experiential information- thus the DIASPORA begins: and the Singularity in the sense of a time with rapid changes to fundamental human life that cannot be predicted- with millions of transhumanist 'cultists' hacking themselves into new forms- new gods and demons- new species of intelligence where they use the interface technology to suppress/activate new kinds of brain states and even out-source their thinking to computers outside their skulls- even people who choose to record their neural network into software completely- instead of YAKKING on the phone about minutia- they will actually UPLOAD their brain state and neural architecture and it's functional neurochemical structure through their cell phone into the internet- leaving their body dormant or dead- then we will have software people while the cognitive science and AI communities are STILL bickering about how to build a mind and how the brain works! software dose not need to know these things- it just needs to know how to COPY

well, here and now cell phones are multiplying around you and now there is google latitude which can find precise location of each cell phone in the world.

cell phones are evil because of the radiation when they are used and the constant emf spread out over any cell area by the antennas. This stuff is real and makes people sick. Cells change the protein makeup in your bloodstream. They stimulate the fight or flight response in your body because they are a threat to you at a cellular level. People who have become conditioned to cells especially young people are putting themselves under tremendous stress unprecedented in the history of mankind just so they can conveniently communicate with one another. And they don't even have anything worthwhile to say! The consequences for this will be dire. Much sickness including cancer will come and has come of it.
